Corulniath

Posted in Fiction, Sci-Fi on November 25, 2009 by GuNNhead

The are times when all must decide to become something that they are not, were not, to become what they are. One calls this the Corulniath. It is a time of deep inner reflection and progression. In this time, it is customary to separate yourself from all that you feel to be ‘not you,’, and surround yourself with what you want to take into yourself. This is what may be planned for the future, or what one has accumulated through life.

One of the elders recently came into via what none will describe. He, having been benevolent in his life, faced a sudden change. While some simply revise themselves, and take an inventory of what they have done, who they are, and who they plan on demonstrating themselves as from then on, this elder, in his time of Corulniath surrounded himself with nothing, and traveled far away. He returned many years later, revealing that he saw within himself a weeping demon, and spent years coming to terms with that inner self who sought to become the new man within, the exert itself outwardly, changing who he was. He embraced this vision, but only for himself. In this way, he kept who he was at peace, back in town, in society. Remember. Upon his Corulniath after his revelation, he found something inside him, the him he had come to be in his life. The weeping demon, still a part of him that he embraced. He sought to hide his actions while in that version of himself, in his return, he embraced who he had been. telling the stories of it.

Young people were impressed and frightened, could this sort of demon be lurking within me? Will it only show at old age after a lifetime of revision? Is it there from birth, waiting to be found? Discovery. Honesty. What is honestly? how can one be honest to oneself, or, for that matter, dishonest. One’s action is a direct reflection of who they are on the inside, that is all there is to it, that is all that can be of it. Nobody hears or sees or feels or experiences your thoughts, or regrets, or inner monologue, no matter how vivid and straight forward they seem to you. No matter how immediate your thoughts are, they do not matter at all to the outside world. you are who you appear to be, have no delusions in society. Only completely alone are you judged by your thoughts, and you are the only judge.

Our journey alone is one that is expected, and wholly natural. We are all born alone, and we all leave this life alone. One must take the appropriate assessments in order to be prepared that there will be a necessity for the mind to exist on its own, to create its own form of vision, and become one with all, taking into account only of the individual’s predilections, the only thing by which can judge themselves. The outside is made to shape one’s self against, while the inside is something one must form themselves to.

The Hellbeast Part 2

“Ah, the mortal returns in one piece!”
“Far more than I will be able to say for you. I’m not from here, I do not believe in this planet’s beliefs, and I know what you are, demon, and I will see to it that you are decapitated.”
“Oh my, yes, I see; far beyond mortality in ways unseen. However, no being is so far beyond the murder that only one from the Hellish Dimension can bring.”
“Let’s see what you can do, beast.”

It lashes out me with hellfire, and sends me backwards in a gust of flame. I slam into a vehicle. He shrinks to my size. He’s trying to toy with me. I know I can kill this thing. I pick up the vehicle and shoot it at him, then fire a gravity sphere to the bottom of it. The fuel charges explode on impact.
“I am born from the fires of hell! That was nothing, it was as a cool breeze to one such as I!” He comes for me with lightning speed, and pins me with one arm against the pavement. He pushes me into the now melting rock, as his hands sear my armor.
“I am born from nothing. All of life, even yours, Hellbeast, is nothing to one such as I.” My eyes fire a quick burst fire energy beams, and he stumbles back, clutching his face. I stand, molten pavement falling off me, his handprint still smoking in my chest.
“This should be easier than I thought, your powers do not match the legends.”
“I shall show you how these legends were formed; I am one from the Hellish Dimension!”
[Activate: Gravity Blade]
“Don’t care,” I said with a palpable apathy to my voice.

I attack swiftly, but without tactic. He blocks my blade with his clawed hands, empowered by the fires of the Hellish Dimension, my blade has not yet the power to slice through such a force. He slashes me across my abdomen with his scythen nails. My blood boils. Literally. The liquid bubbles upon the ground and from the wound.
“Boiling blood? And not by my hand, either; why, you get more interesting by the second, mortal. Your death will be a delicious treat for me.”
“I cannot die because I can hold no belief in my death. I am tied, tethered to the beyond, the ultimate end. It will be a pleasure to remove your offensive head.”
I fire gravity bullets past him, and quickly run up, and deliver an uppercut to his stomach. He vomits hellfire, and grabs me by the shoulders, tossing me at a large nearby stone structure. The pit from whence he came is near, I can sense the fluctuations in power. He comes at me, growing larger.
“I will crush you for thinking you can deliver such an attack on me! I will teach you the pain of the Hellish Dimension!”

I remain silent, and make a run for his legs, slicing them off. He slides from his removed appendages as the wounds spew more hellfire, forming into the cloud, spiraling.
“No! Don’t you know what you’ve done? You’ll pay for this!”
I stand on his back, with one leg firmly on the top of his spine. I assert a gravity field to keep him down.
“No! This can’t happen!” he struggles to get out from under my foot, but cannot, “I am the truth beyond the grave!”
“Yeah, so’s everything else.” With that, I lop off his head. His head rolls to the ground, shrinking; I walk over and pick it up.

The Hellbeast Part 1

I land on the central planet of the disavowed area once more, and I return to the centroidal establishment of the utmost squalid district. Only there is a woman in the stead of the owner.

“Who are you? Where is the other?”
“He is no longer with us, I killed that pathetic fool, and now I run the centroidal establishment.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah… Can I help you with anything?”
“Celrdrrun. I need his location.”
“Tell you what, bring me the head of a Hellbeast and I’ll give you his whereabouts. Deal?”
“Deal.”

Soon my craft reports to me of the planet we’re nearing the vicinity of: There is an anomalous energy spewing forth from its bowels, and with a single creature at its command. The Hellbeast, I bet. I can prove my might upon him. I rush to the central control area of my craft, fully suited. The sound of its soles echo out, it is like no sound I’ve ever heard before, yet at the same time is hauntingly familiar and satisfying, it’s positively inexplicable. Moving forward. Once in control of the ship, I head towards the planet.

I’ve not had this preternatural suit for long now, and I’m already dashing around the multiversity to prove my might, so that I will not need to prove myself upon those who may hold information. Information towards my revenge. I’ve only heard tales of the tremendous power of the Hellbeasts. It will be an honor to dispatch of this one. I require its head, so that I can pay some scum for information, without it, she refuses to help. I’m unsure if dispatching of her would cause some sort of dispute amongst the pirate’s trading planets, so I’m playing it safe for now. This will be a good test of my new powers.

I go down alone to the area where the Hellbeast is located. He had only recently emerged from the center of what appears to be a massive graveyard; his minions still pouring out, traversing the land. I was in eclipse, his clouded shadow covered the ground. Being in its presence is as of being outside of time. A being from an immortal dimension, supported by itself, that’s it, it exists. Exists in relation only to the current reality. If reality no longer exists, then I can destroy this creature, and seal what is not properly of. I was not. Now I am. I will not do this. He calls out to me.
“Mortal! You stand at the edge of the dark precipice.” He dripped slime from his massive fangs. “
I continue to walk down the center of the deserted street towards him.
“I will have your head, Hellbeast.”
“You will have death! Towards the heaven you of this planet believe in! How it will crush you when you find there are no angels to lift you to safety!” with that, the giant demonic creature grabs me, and shoots me high into the air. I can’t fly. I concentrate. I know I can use my weapons to create pockets of low or high gravity. I can feel it, power being channeled through my body for stability. I can manipulate gravity itself. I ease back down to the ground below.

Outset Part 2

It opens its bone mouth fully, I can see through the animated skull.

[Warning: Dangerous Energy Signature Detected]

An incredible blast comes forth from its gaping maw. I just narrowly dodge as it leaves a huge blast trail carved into the snow.

Surprised by this immense display of power, and still new to my suit, I remain unsure of what course of action to take. Let’s see what this suit can do.

[Activate: Gravity Bullets]

A scatter shot fires from my fingertips into the general direction of the beast, leaving small craters around it. Dinger! Missed. Its gaping maw opens again, preparing to fire. I start running in a wide angle towards it. It fires again. As the blast trails behind me I fire more gravity bullets at it. I really need to get better at aiming. Fast. The snow thickens at my feet, slowing me down enough for the end of its blast to tag my side, sending me spinning in the air, landing in a deep snowdrift.

It stands there in the frozen silence, staring with its hollow black eyes at where I landed. Waiting. I erupt from the embankment in a flying leap. In the air I steady my right forearm with the open palm of the left. This time I won’t miss. It opens its toothy skull again, and prepares to fire. I become engulfed in the beam of blue light, but before it can exude its full power, I fire a gravity sphere from the palm of my right hand, demolishing the creature. I land, smoking, near the bloody smear it left on the snow. That must have been what brought down my craft…

Bombarded by warnings I turn to the source; to the left, over the ridge from which that creature appeared; a huge open expanse; a plain of hundreds of these creatures, moving towards me, firing their blasts unrelentingly. I can’t let them get to my ship. I have to get off this planet of ice and snow.

As the first few have expended their blasts past me, I run towards the crowd. They won’t fire amongst one another.

[Activate: Gravity Blade]

More blasts are fired across me. I’m moving too fast. I carve a path through them to the center, cutting them in half, through the stomach, removing razor sharp clawed arms, heads, shoulders, anything that I deem to be in my way. Their blood is an icy black. I feel my body chill as I become covered by it more and more as I slice my way through them. As their numbers continue to converge on me, they begin to overwhelm me, taking chunks out of my chitinous armor. I fend most off with my sword, and fire gravity spheres to thin their numbers as much as I can.

[Danger: System Critical]

It’s just not enough, there are too many of them. My blood mixes with theirs, melting the snow and ice underfoot. A bloody, slushy mess.

[Danger: Power Levels Critical]
[Danger: Energy: 14%]
[Danger: System Shut Down Imminent]

I need something else, something to save my life, I need more power.

[New Weapon Realized::]
[Activate: Lunar Razor]

I cut deep into one of the beasts, and my blade unleashes a spinning crescent of energy through the crowd, cleaving a path of death and viscera. Before long, I am through the horde, they are no more, body parts strewn about. I walk back to my ship. It has fully repaired itself. Now, to return, and destroy the one who led me to this trap.

Outset Part 1

In death I have never felt so alive.

I don’t know what this suit is, but it feels natural, like a part of me I forgot I had; the omega surge suit. I feel that the suit has bonded with my craft as well on some level, it has altered the exterior while I was in hypersleep. A new logo on the outside of the GS-336; is it fate, or merely coincidence that my ship already carried the moniker of GS, which stood for Guiding Star, a simple model and model number. I know I feel, I know it stands for Gravity Surge. But why? Why do I know Gravity Surge? The logo is bold and intimidating.

I travel to the coordinates, death in my mind. I hunger for it. I sit in the central control area of my craft, stars and black space rushing by me. My helmet is stoic against the lights of darkness inside the central control area. I am adrift in thoughts, very nearing the planet. A quick flash of light comes from the windows. It causes the darkened unaware eyes of my helmet to flicker, light up, turn from their dark red to bright red, me waking from reverie. I look around to find the source.

Finding nothing, I look to the control panel, it appears in front of me, translucent, blue. ‘Sleep Mode’ scrolls across the top. The buttons are outlined with a brighter blue, and light up when I apply pressure to them; ‘Active’ now scrolls. My fingers glide nimbly across the tri-panel light console as the room gets a dose brighter.
“Scan for hosti-“ I get cut off by a warning siren. Red lights flash, the panel turns red ‘Total System Failure’ now scrolls. A trap.

Smoke and flame billows out the back of my craft as it hurtles through the ozone layer of the coordinated planet. Soon my craft is coming in over a huge snowbound landscape, skimming hundreds of feet above it, as I attempt to control my descent.
“Come on, come on you piece a junk!”
It’s a black night, but the moons and stars light the field well enough for me to see the ground fast approaching as mountains whiz by in the distance on either side.

The moment of impact; unready for it, I smash through the front window, bouncing off the ground repeatedly as my craft skids to a stop, halting just a short distance from where I lay in a crumpled heap, having slid across the landscape.

Inside the ship, lights return. Upon the console, it scrolls “Repair Sequence Initiated.”

Outside, I slowly stand, facing away from the ship, snow up to my knees. There is blackness all around, the main light now emanating from my craft, as smoke billows out of the back; smoldering. I stand, breathing in the icy cold silence. I begin to scan the area as my craft repairs itself, I scan a full 360 degrees turning left, seeing nothing save some snowdrifts and my craft. As soon as I complete the full optical scan, I hear something off to my right: the heavy crunching of feet in the snow. I turn to the source, and then I see it, coming over a ridge. I zoom in. Some form of monster, lumbering towards me. It’s large, almost oval shaped, with clawed arms swinging, swaying to its movement. Its head looks like the skull of a crocodile, with black, hollow eyes. Its body is fur, grey. I cannot see its feet from the snow.
